VA Wedding Photographer | Meredith and Aaron

VA Wedding Photographer

There is an old saying: laughter is the best medicine. And I really believe it’s true! I’m not sure they teach it in medical school, but the practice of laughing long and hard is something that Meredith and Aaron, both navy doctors, definitely subscribe to! These two bring so much joy to one another. We spent a wonderful afternoon together recently for their engagement session, and I left feeling lighter and brighter for having spent time in their company!
Meredith and Aaron were first introduced by their mutual friend Riley. They hit it off immediately, but at the time lived in different states. Months later, and deeply into her medical rotation at Walter Reed, Meredith received a text from Aaron out of the blue. It was a joke that made her laughter out loud…and she says she hasn’t stopped laughing since! After some long-distance dating, the two finally found themselves in the same town. And right before Meredith’s deployment in October 2016, Aaron insisted that they take a walk down to their favorite local spot, a dock on Bogue Sound. Once there, Aaron dropped to a knee and asked Meredith to be his wife. She was so surprised she nearly fell off the dock! Luckily she managed to stay dry and say ‘Yes!’ But the surprises weren’t done…both Meredith’s and Aaron’s parents suddenly rushed onto the dock from hiding places in the bushes…and their friend Riley emerged from the water with a GoPro camera! He’d caught the whole thing on video! What a plan Aaron hatched and carried off to perfection. Amazing!
Their engagement session took place at First Landing State Park in Virginia. This is a special spot for these two, they love to run there on the weekends. We shared a lovely conversation about being in the military. My husband is in the military, so it’s always an honor to work with a couple with whom I share this connection. I’m very much looking forward to their May wedding at the Inn at Warner Hall!

I hope you enjoy these photos from the beautiful afternoon we spent together at the beach with the most perfect lighting !

Charlotte Country Club Wedding | Cathleen and Thomas

A wedding is a beautifully personal expression; every couple I meet values slightly different things on the day they tie the knot! It’s one of the things I love about being a wedding photographer. I always feel privileged to get to see the details of each unique ceremony come together, to watch the couple and their loved ones celebrate in their very own way! For Cathleen and Thomas, making sure that their families and friends had an amazing time was clearly one of their biggest wedding priorities…and they truly succeeded!
These two met at a football watching party, and it seems that Thomas was smitten with Cathleen almost immediately! When they ran into each other two weeks later, Thomas confessed that he’d developed a serious crush…and won Cathleen over by coming right out and admitting it! It was a match, of course. 🙂 Three years later, Cathleen dropped by his house, thinking that they were headed to a Christmas party. But when she walked through the door, she was met with flowers, music, champagne…and one very important question! Afterwards, the newly engaged couple made their way to a restaurant where Thomas had booked a private room. He’d also gathered family members from far and wide to surprise Cathleen!
Their ceremony at Christ Episcopal Church was absolutely joyous. The bride’s dress originally belonged to her grandmother, in fact, Cathleen was the 6th person to become a wife in this very special garment. So beautiful! The 350+ guests were warmly greeted by the bride and groom at the reception (held at the Charlotte Country Club), and then everyone thoroughly rocked the dance floor! It was a big, fun, fantastic wedding…and friends and family clearly had the time of their lives sending these two off into a new chapter as husband and wife! Below is a sneak peek of their big day!

Adaumont Farm Wedding NC | Katherine and Edward

      Adaumont Farm Wedding NC

      Adaumont Farm Wedding NC

From Georgia to New York and back, Katherine and Edward’s story is a wonderful one! They met in Athens, where Katherine had been a student at UGA. Living in New York at the time, she headed south for a weekend of fun and football…and a little live music. The lead singer/bass player of the band Katherine saw on her trip was a young man named Edward. And meeting him after the show started something incredible in motion…in just a few years, Edward would propose to Katherine on the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC!
Their summer wedding took place at Adaumont Farm, to the evident joy of many excited loved ones! Edward was moved to tears several times, especially when reading the letter Katherine had written for him. It’s moments like these that are truly a privilege to capture! And oh! The flood of excitement when The Funk Brotherhood (that’s Edward’s band) took the stage at the reception! As many times as the groom has performed live, I know that this show must have felt different for him. He was still doing what he loves (this time in front of a swirling, dancing mass of people who love him right back!). But this time…and for the first time…his wife was by his side.
And, saving the sweetest detail for last! The bride and her circle of friends maintain such a beautiful tradition: they all wear (or will wear) the exact same pair of earrings on their wedding day. The set is passed from friend to friend, with a note from the last bride to the woman about to be married. In this case, the previous bride happened to be Katherine’s best friend and bridesmaid Elizabeth! And for her ‘something blue’, Katherine wore a diamond and aquamarine ring that had been passed from her grandmother to her mother. These kinds of meaningful touches are everything on such a big day…they ground us in who we are and remind us of what matters most: Family and Love (…and Puppies! You know me, I have to shout out to fellow dog lovers…and Katherine and Edward have two fur babies!
