Carolina Inn Wedding Chapel Hill | Jessica and Richard

Carolina Inn Wedding Chapel Hill

We all know how it feels to breathe a sigh of relief when something in life feels right, deep down. There’s a sense of quiet joy, a feeling of warmth and good will, of being at peace. Watching Jessica and Richard on their wedding day, it was clear that they were both exactly where they are meant to be! There is something about the way they look at each other…something special that I don’t see very often. Surrounded by loved ones who support them and are proud of them, they tied the knot in a beautiful December ceremony at The Carolina Inn that will lift my heart for many days to come.
I’ve known Jessica and Richard for a few months now. I was delighted to work on their engagement session back in September. We spent a very pleasant afternoon together on the Eno River, and I got to meet their sweet pups Charlie and Ellie! And of course I learned how their family and friends played cupid for them (they were both doing residencies at UNC and were quite busy at the start of their courtship), so sweet! Jessica mentioned that she felt drawn to my work because she could see the emotion and love in my photos (an amazing compliment!). She said she wanted to capture the same kinds of memories on her own wedding day, so I knew from the start that I would love working with these two!
Jessica and Richard’s friend Sophie (one of their primary matchmakers) officiated in a very meaningful and personal ceremony. The bride was beyond stunning, the picture of elegance and grace. After the ceremony, Jessica and Richard kept stealing happy glances at one another. I could tell it was just beginning to sink in for them that they had finally done it…they were husband and wife! Absolutely beautiful. And I must mention their cake! They both love canoeing, so the top of the cake was a canoe sculpture! A unique touch that celebrated one of the many things they share. This was truly the perfect way for me to wrap up my 2016 wedding season! Thank you Jessica and Richard! I wish you the happiest of holidays and a wonderful New Year! Carolina Inn Wedding Chapel HillCarolina Inn Wedding Chapel HillCarolina Inn Wedding Chapel HillCarolina Inn Wedding Chapel Hillwinter wedding ideaswinter wedding ideaswinter wedding ideas

Carolina Club Wedding Chapel Hill | Ashley and Gill

Ashley and Gill…how I’ve been looking forward to this wedding! I was completely taken with these two on the day I met them for their engagement session…they are so in love with each other! Because of their busy schedules, these two treasure moments together…either outdoors with their fur baby Sullivan or cheering on their home team (did I mention they’re sports fans?). “We are HUGE Tar Heels!” says Ashley. They try not to miss a single fall football game or home basketball game. They love their family, friends and traveling, and of course their baby Sullivan. They just love life, so it’s an absolute pleasure to spend time with them! You can see their engagement session and read all about the groom’s sweet proposal here (hint: it involves pup Sullivan! Yes!!)

Their ceremony at the University Baptist Church was a joyous swirl of loving family and delighted friends, many from the bride and groom’s sorority/fraternity days at UNC Chapel Hill. Ashley was perhaps the most organized bride I have ever worked with! She knows just what she wants and is so confident in her decisions. She and Gill also trusted me completely. At one point they said “We’ll do whatever you want us to do!” What a gift! These two really just wanted to get married and enjoy the day. Gill’s calm, sweet, energy was such a pleasure as well.
And their families were so happy! Several times during the reception at the Carolina Club I saw Ashley and Gill’s moms hugging each other on the dance floor! At one point the mother of the bride commented that Gill is the son she never had. And…check out the portraits with Sullivan, the famous Goldendoodle! His sitter brought him to the wedding for a bit so he could make a special appearance on his mom and dad’s big day! He was even dressed to the nines in a black bowtie! So sweet! Below is a sneak peek of their wonderful wedding!!!

Charlotte Country Club Wedding | Cathleen and Thomas

A wedding is a beautifully personal expression; every couple I meet values slightly different things on the day they tie the knot! It’s one of the things I love about being a wedding photographer. I always feel privileged to get to see the details of each unique ceremony come together, to watch the couple and their loved ones celebrate in their very own way! For Cathleen and Thomas, making sure that their families and friends had an amazing time was clearly one of their biggest wedding priorities…and they truly succeeded!
These two met at a football watching party, and it seems that Thomas was smitten with Cathleen almost immediately! When they ran into each other two weeks later, Thomas confessed that he’d developed a serious crush…and won Cathleen over by coming right out and admitting it! It was a match, of course. 🙂 Three years later, Cathleen dropped by his house, thinking that they were headed to a Christmas party. But when she walked through the door, she was met with flowers, music, champagne…and one very important question! Afterwards, the newly engaged couple made their way to a restaurant where Thomas had booked a private room. He’d also gathered family members from far and wide to surprise Cathleen!
Their ceremony at Christ Episcopal Church was absolutely joyous. The bride’s dress originally belonged to her grandmother, in fact, Cathleen was the 6th person to become a wife in this very special garment. So beautiful! The 350+ guests were warmly greeted by the bride and groom at the reception (held at the Charlotte Country Club), and then everyone thoroughly rocked the dance floor! It was a big, fun, fantastic wedding…and friends and family clearly had the time of their lives sending these two off into a new chapter as husband and wife! Below is a sneak peek of their big day!
